VINTAGE NOMADIC KILIM No 33 - 4'6" x 9
This is a hand-spun, handwoven kilim from the 1960, made by the nomadic Karakecili tribe. Throughout the coastal region of Turkey you can come across groups of nomadic herders, the Yoruk, who in the winter come down to the pastures by the coast and in the summer travel up into the high mountain plateaus of Anatolia. Today many Yoruk have settled down to live in rural villages. Only about 200 are still living a nomadic life. They have retained their ancient skill in weaving sheep wool and goat hair into carpets and colorful clothing.
Material: Mix of sheep wool and goat hair
Condition: This rug is in fair condition and shows notable wear and signs of age
Please note: This is a vintage item and you should expect to see evidence of wear, potentially some reparations and slight ‘imperfections’, which I believe add to the character and charm of the rug.
